An apartment rental agreement is a document outlining the terms and conditions under which a landlord rents a property to a tenant. Rental agreements can usually be oral or written for rental periods of 12 months or less, but if the tenant is renting for longer than 12 months, the agreement must be in writing. Generally all rental agreements contain clauses identifying the parties, the property, the term of the rental, the duties of the tenant and landlord, and the amount of rent for the term. The owner of the property is generally referred to as the landlord and the renter as the tenant.
