Sublease of Office Space

The agreement by which one party holds possession of the real property owned by another is a lease. The person who owns the real property is known as the lessor or landlord. The lessee, or tenant, is the one who occupies the property. The relationship of landlord and tenant is created by contract. To sublease means to lease or rent all or part of a leased or rented property. A sublessee is someone who has the right to use and occupy rental property leased by a lessee from a lessor. A sublessee has responsibilities to both the lessor and the lessee. A sublessee must often get the consent of the lessor before subleasing rental property to a sublessee. The lessee still remains responsible for the payment of rent to the lessor and any damages to the property caused by the sublessee.
